First, Jake, our cousin, Alex and Lance prepared gift bags for all the kids. Our friend, Katy Hall, donated all the little plastic items. We had exactly 125 bags when we were thru.
This is one of the classrooms for the Saturday children's program at the FOCUS center. A week or two ago, this room had served as the 'basement' or 'attic' for all the junk that had accumulated over several years -- chairs, bicycle parts, sewing machines, assorted wood planks. The Grace Chapel team cleared out a bunch of it, and the U.K. team cleaned it up and made it ready for use. The week I left, it was going to get a new paint job by the U.K. team.
This is a broader view of the FOCUS center. More classrooms are under construction in the back ground. The tent serves as a makeshift classroom.
Downtown Kampala on a Thursday morning. Lots of bucycles, mopeds, taxi minibuses. Many of the roads are paved, but this one is mostly dirt and dust.
In addition to having the equator run through it, Uganda is famous as the source of the Nile River.
98% of Uganda's electricity is generated by hydropower. Here is an undammed falls, where school field trips are frequent.
This is Lake Victoria. FOCUS has purchased a large plot of land (30 acres?) on the banks of this placid body of water. They are building a camp on it for retreats and conferences. When it is finished, it will be one of the most desirabe destinations in East Africa.
